i am spending a day with God today.
found this article which i found helpful. maybe it helps you as well :)

I was intimidated the first time I tried spending an entire day in solitude. Putting some structure on the day helps. Here are some suggestions.

Spend a brief time getting ready the night before. Ask God to bless the day, and tell him you want to devote the day to him. This day is your gift to God, but of course even more than that, it is a gift God wants to give to you. What do you need the Lord to give you: A sense of healing and forgiveness? Conviction for an apathetic heart? Compassion? A renewed sense of mission?

Arrange the day around listening to God. Here's a format I've adapted from Glandion Carney's book The Spiritual Formation Toolkit:

8:00–9:00 a.m.
Prepare your mind and heart, take a walk or do whatever will help you set aside concerns over other tasks. Try to arrange your morning so you can be in silence from when you first wake up.

9:00–11:00 a.m.
Read and meditate on Scripture, taking time to stop and reflect when God seems to be speaking to you through the text.

11:00 a.m.–noon
Write down your responses to what you've read. Speak to God about these.

Noon–1:00 p.m.
Lunch and walk, reflecting on the morning.

1:00–2:00 p.m.
Rest or nap.

2:00–3:00 p.m.
Think about goals that emerge from the day.

3:00–4:00 p.m.
Write down these goals and any other thoughts in a journal. You may want to do this in the form of a letter to God.

prague at last!

at last, i moved to prague at the end of august (a month ago!)

loving it so far - even though i do not have a place of my own yet -still staying with friends - katka and amelia. staying with them is great - we cook all the time, eat a lot, drink wine while watching some good movie or just talk...it's a bummer there isn't one more room in the house :(
and, even though i love being here with them, i do feel ready to move and have a room and closet and desk of my own :)

anyway, as i said we like to cook, here are some things i have learned while staying with these girls:

ginger lemonade/tea
- cut ginger to small pieces
- pour hot water (if you wish to make lemonade, pour very little, just to cover the ginger, if you want to make tea, of course, use as much water as you wish :)))
- table spoon of honey
- juice from half a lemon
- if making lemonade, fill the jug with cold water

coffee with cardamon
- just add ground cardamon to the coffee in the coffee maker (or cinnamon - i tried ground cinnamon, but another friend suggested that maybe whole cinnamon stick will work better as it will not clog the coffee maker :))

and, tomorrow we will make pears baked in red wine! will write how that went ;)

a trip to prague

this past weekend, we had the second meeting of our prague team, this time in prague.

the first day was very depressing for me - it was the first time for me to go to prague knowing i am going to move to this city - and i got scared - i have no idea about the public transport, i dont know all the cool places like i do in brno, you know, just this fear of new environment..but i do realize that these things do not change unless i go through them and have some experience in them..

and, as the time went by, i felt more and more confident in the city. so, by sunday, when i was leaving, i was ready and REALLY excited to move. however, that does not mean i will not miss brno - anytime i think of leaving my friends, the fellowship, my students and work here, this amazing apartment with the coolest position in brno (for me, anyway..),, i want to cry.. but, hey, it's a challenge and i like challenges and i like stepping out of my comfort zone (ok, i like it afterwards :)) because i believe that is the only way to grow in faith as well as in character and as a person.

now, the actual move will happen sometime at the end of august/beginning of september. you can have that in mind and pray for that - we (my future roomate, lucka, possibly some third girl and i) will need to find some suitable apartment for some reasonable price.

i finished my school life officially some two weeks ago - i was given my diplomas and i had a great day with my family at a lunch party here in brno. it was in a place called mon ame and i especially loved the music they played while we were there - jazz from the 30's and 40's :))

the main gift i got was an iPod nano (after a consultation with tomas i did not get iPod classic, as tomas told me it would be dead sooner than the nano one :)))) and what a change in my thought life!!! it is so true that what you think about defines or controls or directs your actions or even in your other thoughts- and i can see SUCH a difference in my thoughts and even desires after listening to a sermon (i've been listening to john piper sermons mostly) rather than listening to music, even though i have nothing against music - i love it and i wake up with it and fall asleep with it. so, even though music is not bad, there is something even better :)) (as a friend of mine puts it - the greatest enemy of the best things aren't bad things but good things). so, i choose to be formed by the best thing (the Word) rather than by good music :)

and i am sure there are people who have not such a big problem with their thought life..but for me, it is an issue and i need to preach this verse to myself often: "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will" (romans 12:2) and "Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth" (collosians 3:2).

i see the fruit of thinking of the things above - in the past week, i am much more satisfied, thankful, joyful, peaceful... i realize that just listening to the sermons and just thinking good thoughts did not 'do the trick' and that the Holy Spirit is the one who is changing us, but i do believe He has been using these things to draw me closer to Him..

so, may that be an encouragement for you as well, to choose to be controlled by the right things ;)

just came back from a trip to a cottage where we had few days of skiing (for me just walking and hiking and sledging :)) in the mountains. well, on the way there, we somehow got stuck in snow next to the road - we thought it was all road..however, there was a ditch.. three different cars stopped to help us - the third one (audi :)) was finally successful, however, just before the final pull of the audi, my phone announced full memory...so, the climax is not filmed. but, the vain tries of the other two cars are.

dnes mam strasne velku radost. moje asi trojdnove trapenie s odretym nosom od smrkania (do toho sa mi nejak divne odreli aj pery, nielenze som ich mala vysusene ale fakt odrete..nechapem...) sa skoncilo!!! no, tak po rade kamosky anicky (ktora mi radila borozan), som sa vydala do lekarne. pani magistra v lekarni mi poradila, ked sa na mna pozrela, radsej kosmin (strasny obal a este strasnejsi nazov, ja viem, ale taku okamzitu a uzasnu zmenu som este nezazila - v priebehu niekolkych hodin po odrenom nose a perach ani stopa...). takze, odporucam v tomto obdobi chriiipkovom... :)

after fine and a half years, i finished my university studies at the university on january 29th 2009, the exam starting at 9:00 am :)

however, i do need to say that i am not proud of my performance during the exam..disappointed by myself..so, it really is God's miracle and grace that i am MA now... :)

still dont fully realize this dramatic change in my life, probably supposed to be like a major boundary mark, but really, the only thing right now is that i can read the books i choose and not those i NEED TO for my school. so, cant wait to dig into some iris murdoch, really got in mood for walden :) and, also, i cant wait to study the bible more. maybe focus on the old testament...any tips? :)

i am 26!!! just four more years to go and i will reach my dream age!! :) dont know why, but i am REALLY looking forward to being 30...
since i am finishing my thesis at this moment (some 10 more pages to go...), i spent my birthday in the apartment in brno, alone, but not lonely! :) at least not virtually - my dear friends from elemental media had an open house party in zilina and since i could not be there physically, they streamed the party as a birthday present for me (which i asked for :D) so, it was fun to watch them all and it was also fun to watch those to whom it took a while to understand that i can see and hear everything whereas they can only see what i am typing to them :D
but, hopefully, after i finish my thesis and hand it in, i am going to celebrate and dance and sing and smiiiile :)

ever since we've moved to the apartment in lisen, this radiator has been a mystery for me..sometimes it was hot (right at the beginning of our moving here). sometimes not, and for the past maybe 4 weeks it was not hot AT ALL, not even warm...so, since the rest of the radiators in this apartment were hot, i decided there is something wrong with it.
i asked my dad over the phone, but he did not know what could be wrong without seeing it (well, before i asked the other three girls who live with me whether they had an idea what could be wrong. guess, what the answer was :)).
then, i asked a friend of mine who built his own house. so i thought he would know..and, he DID know. i did what he told me. i disassembled the temperature switch (or whatever that is called in english) and successfully so. the radiator started working.
there is just this little thing - somehow (trying to think how), i put the switch back on the radiator the other way round...so, when it reads 5, it is cold (should be hot) and when it reads 1, it's super hot :D :D :D
but, hey! it WORKS!!!!! :) (and i am a woman.. :D)

do you have friends that whenever you are with them, you just laugh the whole time you are together?? well, i do..at least one - ales. whenever we had english classes together at high school, we would laugh until we cried during certain types of matching or multiple choice exerices (since some of the matching we would do made no sense whatsoever and since i love absurdity, and sounds like he does as well, we would simply laugh...). so, now, when i myself teach english and i remember certain instances with ales, i want to laugh at my english classes. however, that would not be appropriate...

anyway, so this friend sends all kinds of funny stuff to me (another common theme that we both love to laugh at are animals in all kinds of funny situations..). so, here is a video he just sent to me. enjoy (even though i know lenka petkova is the exact opposite of me and she hates cats, i hope, leni, you can at least laugh at this one :P)

lectures with michael ramsden

this past week we had a great 2 days in brno - we had michael ramsden coming and first giving a seminar (together with raphael anzenberger and vlad from romania - what's funny is that vlad became christian through josiah venture :)) on apologetics - that was really cool - very practical, inspirational...didnt even realize it was so late when we finished - i would be able to learn some new things even longer :)

and then, on monday evening, michael and raphael gave lectures on whether all religions lead to the same God - together with Q&A time. the first night some 130 people came (however, a big part of that number were already christians and organizers).
the second day, thueday evening was the only speaker michael and this time he talked about why there is so much suffering in this world when the christians claim to have a good God. again, Q&A time with great questions..this evening, some 170 people came, again, many of them already christians.

after the talks, some of us had the opportunity to talk to some of the attendees and go deeper into the conversations. i personally was speaking to a girl who is searching and wants to know more. hope to see her next week at out regular tuesday evening meetings in brno :)

so, overall - a great time, i think a very high quality lectures and hopefully there will be some visible fruit of all that effort soon :)

som prisla na zvlastny fenomen - muzi v cesku sa s oblubou obliekaju do kosele (s nejakym vzorom alebo aj bez neho, ale vzdy je ten material skor taky bezny, nie je to elegantna kosela) a pod nou maju tricko s kratkym rukavom. koselu maju zvacsa rozopnutu. akoze, nie ze by to zle vyzeralo, len ma udivilo, kolkych muzov som takto v poslednej dobe videla...to je akoze zase in? asi mi nieco uslo...

onehda som zase videla 'svojho' pana - toho strasne chudeho a asi hladneho. ale, tentokrat som mala lepsi pocit - sedel na lavicke na zastavke a este vzdy mal spinave oranzove nohavice a spinave nohy, ale!! tentokrat vyzeral strasne sofistikovane - cital si noviny. a to nie len tak ledajako - sedel asi original v pravom uhle, uplne vystrety chrbat :) a noviny nemal na kline ako vacsinou ludia citaju. kdezeby! on ich mal vystrete v urovni oci - no proste vyzeral ako najvacsi ucenec! :D a okrem toho vedla neho bola igelitka plna jablk :) tak som spokojna, ze asi nebol hladny.. :))

som si dnes bola kupit v obchode nejaky chales a bol tam taky pan - trojstvrtove nohavice stare a spinave, strasne krcove zily a strasne spinavy (ale nesmrdel), strasne chudy... pozeral sa do tej vylohy s udeninami a syrmi, potom sa pozeral na rozny chlieb a neviem este na co..a v ruke mal papierik, asi ze co ma kupit.
nakoniec si kupil nejake pecivo za dve kuruny. to je vsetko. a mne ho prislo strasne luto, ze proste takto chodi obzeravat jedlo a asi nan nema peniaze alebo co a strasne vinne sa citim, ze som mu nieco nekupila a pritom sebe som si kupila snickers, ktory nepotrebujem.
a teraz mi ani nechuti to jahodove jogurtove mlieko, co pijem... :(

my amazing friend, bekah, who, unfortunatelly moved back to the states :( to have a BABY!!! :))) just had a dream about me...i find it HILARIOUS!! (i am not really getting married, by the way...)

"So I had a dream last night that I missed your wedding because I was busy riding my broken bike, around the Majerski's broken down house that was on a lake, looking for your wedding rings that someone stole. You were really mad that everyone wasn't helping, and your wedding dress was a pale blue satin dress. Your hair was all up in tight curls, and you had big eyelashes! In my dream you were SOO BEAUTIFUL!! Kati did all your hair and make-up and I was so jealous that I couldn't do it, and she did. ha,ha,ha... the end!!

oh yeah.. I mean I could give you even more details about the dream than that.... those were just the highlights! I woke up missing you so much! And I just couldn't believe I was going to miss your wedding... and I was so frustrated because no one seemed to care that I wasn't going to be there, and they wouldn't help me out! Stano and Mima were just sitting out on the steps of their front porch, just watching me run around looking for your rings...! C'mon people... Gaby is getting married!!!! :) it was so real to me... Crazy dream!

maybe some of you know that i had to pass an exam from russian language in june. without a long explanation, i had to pass advanced level, even though i have only gone through the elementary russian.. so, i was 100% sure i would not pass it in june but would have to go to another term in september. but i at least wanted to see what the exam looks like. well, it turned out that the teacher was very kind (again, without a long explanation, i had seen her for the second time in my life..) and when we spoke (in my VERY broken russian), i was able to tell her about my faith in God and about the purpose of my life.. well, i passed it but was not sure what i would get..and today i found out that i got C, which for me is a great miracle since i would be extatic if only i could get E (because without this exam i would not be able to get my diploma). so, i am just standing in awe of what God is doing...something which logically should not happen.. i should not pass an advanced level of russian with only elementary knowledge, and if yes, for sure not with the average grade...so, these verses remind me of this situation:

Has God forgotten to be gracious,
Or has He in anger withdrawn His compassion?

onehda, ked sme sa s jaykom vracali z campfestu, sme si pustali nase oblubene songy v aute. a myslim, ze toto bola jedna z jayjaykovych oblubenych...stara hymna krestanska. rada mam taketo songy, lebo maju do seba viac ako dnesne odrhovacky, teda vacsina, kde su dve slohy a refren... ktore akoze nie su zle, ale tie stare hymny su lepsie :) hlbsie, viac upriamene na Boha samotneho, sa mi zda, nespievaju zvacsa o Nom ale Jemu.. tak enjoy....

priatelia, prosim vas o modlitby za nase byvanie - mali sme prislubeny jeden super byt za super cenu, ale majitelia to chcu predat, takze nam navrhuju maximalne 3 mesiace prenajmu. ja osobne by som do toho isla, tak uvidime, ako sa vyjadria ostatne 3 holky. ale viem, ze Pan je zvrchovany a ze ma svoj zamer v comkolvek, tak sa tesim na to, co pride z Jeho ruky :)

i know recently i have been putting all these videos here, but i cant help myself ;) they are all so good...and this one, my dear ones, is excelent!!! we went to a slovak christian music festival campfest and since a friend of mine, this little guy jakubko, did not manage to see the hip-hopers' concert (wessani) the whole way through, his daddy asked one of them to give jakub autograph. the singer forgot his lyrics and so jakub continued till the end of the song. i think we will hear of jakub yet when he gets older. maybe he will be famos ;)

....featuring uzasna kamoska lubka alias "čerieslo". toto video sme natacali na letnej konferencii studentu pro Krista, kde sme robili slovensku scenku. ja som hrala mini ulohu nory benackovej (ano, tej hlasatelky :) ) a vsetci ostatni uplne excelovali..video celej scenky zial nemam, ale tutok aspon posledne instruktazne video o tom, kde vsade mozte pripravovat halusky... praca, to nie su len noviny...

for english speakers - we did this video at a summer conference in czech where we did a skit with only slovaks in it (and it was about slovakia). so, this is a video about where all you can knead the dough for halusky ;))

cez leto byvam v brne u kamosky ifky, ktora je rodena ceska a vobec nepozna slovenske rozpravky. tak cez leto pozerame rozne slovenske vecernicky. vcera som si spomenula na puf a muf a bolo to lepsie ako celovecerny film! :D
ked som bola mala, tak som viktora kubala rada nemala, a teraz viem preco - lebo tam su take, pre deti, strasidelne zvuky.

ok, i DID make it to croatia..and back :) God is good...i was able to have a new ID in just 10 minutes. and i made it back to brno just on time to catch the bus to croatia. and croatia was amazingly relaxing. my friend ifka and i did nothing but sleep and eat and sleep and read...we had a real blast!! :)
now back in brno...teaching some, but still kinda realxing and there will come the time to seriously get back to work on my diploma thesis...

i have just deleted all the posts on this blog!! :D fortunatelly, they are all cached, so i will eventually add them here again..just not right now, as another thing is more pressing in my life - going to croatia in some 18 hours. the thing is, both my passport and my ID are expired and so i have no legal way to travel...so, i am traveling in the night to get to zilina in the morning and go to the police and have my new ID done for me (which has to take less then 2 hours so that i can catch my bus back to brno on friday morning) and then coming to brno and going straight to croatia (hope i'll make it....)

let you know whether i made it ;)

ok, i was praying for the summer to be able to translate something from english to slovak since i will not enough teaching, which means no so much money...and, guess what?! today, i got and email from a friend, whether i am not interested in translating two books in the summer!!!! :)) i mean...lately, i have been so blessed by God from whom all blessings flow... :) hope that's encouraging to yall that God DOES answer prayers!!!!

together with some friends, we were looking for a new apartment for renting here in brno...the prices were so high, though!!! we were praying, and, no wonder, since we have amazing and miraculous God :)) we were able to find an apartment which has 3 bedrooms, 1 living room and a kitchen and is for the same price as an usual apartment with just 2 rooms and a kitchen here in brno...so, i am rejoicing over this :)) we will live here...we should move in september, which was another of our requirements besides the price..and, lo, we will move then, Lord willing :)))

At this point stir the thief on the cross into your thinking. At first he was railing at Jesus (Matthew 27:44). Then he was broken by what he saw and repented and cried out for mercy: "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom" (Luke 23:42). Jesus received this faith-filled cry and promised, "Today you will be with me in Paradise" (Luke 23:43).

Then the former robber lived for another hour or so before he died. He was changed. He lived on the cross as a new man with new attitudes and actions (no more reviling). But 99.99% of his life was wasted. Did the last couple hours of newness matter?

They mattered infinitely. This former robber, like all of us, will stand before the judgment seat of Christ to give an account of his life. "We must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil" (2Corinthians 5:10). How will his life witness in that day to his new birth and his union with Christ?

The last hours will tell the story. This man was new. His faith was real. He is truly united to Christ. Christ's righteousness is his. His sins are forgiven. That is what the final hours will proclaim at the last judgment. His change mattered. It was, and it will be, a beautiful testimony to the power of God's grace and the reality of his faith and his union with Christ.

Now back to our struggle with change. I am not saying that struggling believers are unsaved like the robber was. I am simply saying: the last years and the last hours of life matter.

If in the last 1% of our lives we can get a victory over some longstanding sinful habit or hurtful defect in our personality, it will be a beautiful testimony now to the power of grace; and it will be an added witness (not the only one) at the last judgment of our faith in Christ and our union with him.

Take heart, struggler. Keeping asking, seeking, knocking. Keep looking to Christ. If God gets glory by saving robbers in the 11th hour, he surely has his purposes why he has waited till now to give you the breakthrough you have sought for decades.

dear friends, some things i have read in the book 'surrender to love' by david g. benner:

"i said that the answer to this question about how God sees us has important implications for our spiritual journey. think for a moment about how Christ-following develops if you assume God looks at you with disgust, disappointment, frustration or anger.
the central feature of any spiritual response to such a God will be an effort to earn His approval. far from daring to relax in His presence, you will be vigilant to perform as well as you possibly can. the motive for any obedience you might offer will be fear rather than love, and you must feel safe before you can relax. how could anyone ever expect to feel safe enough to relax in the presence of a God who is preoccupied with their shortcomings and failures? ............... This leaves little room for grace, little room for knowing and enjoying God or resting in His love. ........... the christian God does not turn away from sinners in disgust but moves toward us, bringing us his redemptive presence. ..."
and i could go on and on...the book is really good and very encouraging especially if you struggle with the right view of God on us (and who doesn't, hm? ;) )

ok, my dear ones..after a loooong time contemplating the decision whether to come back to zlina or stay here in czech, i guess i came up with the final FINAL decision ... even though it had been zilina for a longish time. just few weeks ago, at a great sonship conference, i decided to go on living in the beautiful city of brno for one more year and then, if the Lord has it for me, move to prague as a support team for the new ministry location of Students for Christ, or KVZ. sooooo.....hope you will visit me some time ;)
